No antivirus or spyware software

I am not finding any security software for Ubuntu. Is it deemed not needed in the Ubuntu environment?

Thanks for your question.

You don't need any antivirus or antispyware software for the ubuntu environment. Stil, if you want to scan a shared drive with windows on it, there are a few solutions, like F-Prot, Antivir or ClamAV.

Hi!

alwil software (www.avast.com) offers a free antivirus program for Linux: avast! Linux Home Edition. I don't know if this security software is specifically intended for ubuntu (I'm going to ask alwil today). As with ubuntu, I do love the price!

If you use your "Synaptic Package Manager" (what an unnecessarily complicated name!), you can download the Firestarter (search for "firestarter") program; this will enable you to easily set up and use ubuntu's built-in firewall.
