The program that allows "some" Windows software to run under linux is called wine.

Before starting, check for the software you want install on the Wine App Database at http://appdb.winehq.org/ there is a rating system and sometime specific installation instructions.

You need to install wine - use Ubuntu Software Center, Synaptic, or "sudo apt-get install wine" from command line to install wine.

In Nautilus (the file manager) try double clicking on .EXE files [if they try to open in an archive program, right click and select "open with wine" (or similar)] or from command line use "wine PROGRAM_NAME.EXE" to start the installation program.

Wine is an amazing piece of software, but it cannot run everything! Checking the App Database prior to installation is your best bet.

Best of luck,
George

jijo - don't change your question (and title) after you post them - post new questions.

To quickly answer your new question. There are some viruses that can run under wine (most will fail mind you), but they won't "really" affect the underlying linux OS installation, only the virtual Wine install.

jijo, again - you need to ask NEW question(s) not append new questions to the bottom of already answered ones.
