what is mousepad ?

Asked by scifisam

I got an answer from someone that referred to mousepad.I don't know what that is.I would like to know how to edit the line in my
cat /etc/fstab that states /dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 vfat rw,user,noauto,exec,u2f8 0 0 .To read /dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 auto rw,user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0 .In other words change the word "vfat" to "auto" .I think this will make my system mount the floppy ive and use it normally. Can someone tell me how to edit that one word from the line?

Thanks so much Scifisam <email address hidden>

Press Alt+F2
Type gksudo gedit.
Enter password

This will open gedit in a privileged more.
File > open
click the pencil like icon

Type

/etc/fstab

Make the changes required and save.(I recommend a backup first)
Close the window.

Reboot would most likely be necessary.

Hi again

before messing around with fstab it might be worth checking that you can use your Xubuntu Cd as a Live Cd, it should work
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD

This will hopefully allow you to visit this thread at launchpad and should also allow you to copy back the backup over the original if the editing went wrong.
Regards again from
Tom :)

Here's the simplest answer, the mouse pad is the thing that is used to
move the mouse in a laptop.

I thought that was called a trackpad or something un-obvious like that?

Well, I sincerely apologize, but I seem to have missed those two up,
you are definitely right, the thing that you use to move the mouse in
a laptop is called a Track pad. A mouse pad is the "little pad thing"
that is put under a mouse in a desktop computer so that the mouse
rolls smoothly.

Err, isn't that called a mouse mat? Personally i tend to think of a mouse pad as being a flat or studio for a distinguished bachelor mouse

Also it's the name of a text-editor like Gedit, Nano, Kate or Vim & is the standard text-editor in Xubuntu as Ian said. I must admit i tend to call the trackpad (or whatever) a mousepad too & i know most people seem to understand me better when i do. Also isn't Vim a household cleaner? Hmm, and Kate lives 3 doors up

Mouse pad, Mouse mat, what's the difference? :) But i have mostly
seen the term Mouse pad, not mouse mat. But I guess both terms would
mean the same to a person.
And its nice someone actually thinking logically :D

I don't mean to be rude, but where did the subject of a house cleaner
come from? :)

It comes from Kate's house.Kate keep her house clean using Vim and like to play with mouse pad.

Lol! Nice one Zvacet :)

It has only just occured to me that a previous answer of Zvacet's might be worth trying. I hate messing with the fstab because it is fairly dangerous and likely to break your system unless you really know what you are doing with it. Which i don't.

So, there is this gui that might help :)
pysdm

Just install "pysdm" and see if that looks like something you could usefully use safely. I'm not sure if that is Kate's gui ...

Good luck and regards all from
Tom :)
