DVD drive dosen't burn CDs

Asked by Enigmacat

When using a DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive all programs used to burn CDs do not recognize the drive as being able to burn CDs. I have used this drive before to burn CDs and it has worked. But, I have taken that drive out of its old PC and set it as a slave in a new PC with the latest Ubuntu installed. I went into K3B under Settings/Devices and the drive is under read only and shows ERROR under Write Capabilities. Under Read Capabilities it just says DVD-ROM / CD-ROM. What could be the issue?

It looks like that the hardware is not compatible with the new Ubuntu
version, so you might just have to get new DVD/CD burner. You can also
try to download software that might do some help but in usual cases
you would have to buy a new DVD/CD burner that is compatible with your
new Ubuntu version or you would just have to keep the old version.
