Suspend on lid close

Asked by JoseLVG

The Xandros distro coming with the eee 901 was able to detect when the lid was closed and it made the computer into suspend mode.

Suspend mode works (some times) initiated by the user but never as a result of the user closing the laptop.

(I said it works sometimes because some others it gets confused and presents the screen saver lock screen and you have to go and select suspend again)

Is ubuntu able to detect the lid close event?
If so, what scripts should I update to make it suspend to RAM when the lid is closed?

I just got an eeePC 900 and put ubuntu-eee on it, and have noticed this issue. I noticed that it IS able to blank the screen when closing the lid, but changing the setting to suspend when closing the lid doesn't seem to have any effect.

Is this the behavior you are seeing, too, or does the blank-screen setting not even work on yours?

I confirm Tommy Trussell described behavior on a eee 901 with intrepid and
Adam's kernel.

I just got suspend working on lid close -- it turns out I didn't have suspend on lid close set in the gnome power manager for BOTH AC and Battery. I don't know which I was trying last night, but now that I have it set on battery and am running on battery, it's working well.

clarification on exactly what I have:

I have an eee PC 900, on which I first installed ubuntu-eee Ubuntu 8.04.1 Hardy, then I added the array.org repository and did a full update with synaptic (took a long time). After that I wanted to try the Switch Desktop Mode tool, so I added the netbook-remix-team ppa repository and installed it... which brought in more than a few packages, too.

So after you check the settings, if it's still not working on yours the difference may be due to some of the ubuntu-eee customizations. If you have a specific script you want me to look at, let me know.

Thanks Tommy,

I made the same mistake as you in the settings the first time.
Now is working once changed on the proper "battery tab".

Working on a eee 901 with intrepid + Adams kernel.

Worked for me as I said.
