Feedback on the HP ProBook 455 G2 Notebook PC - Peeps

Asked by Kevin James

Have bought the new HP ProBook 455 G2 Notebook PC installed with Ubuntu 12.04 lts. Decided to install 14,04 lts and fully updated it on a new ssd (for speed) and taken the original drive out. The machine runs well but no support for the Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8723BE PCIe Wireless Network Adapter. Also the bluetooth does not work either.

Have had this on going problem with different releases of Ubuntu over the years on different machines. I have an old DLink wireless adapter which works fine plugged into a usb port.

Any ideas for installing a driver for this and the bluetooth would be welcome. Have supported Ubuntu now since about 2005 installing it on a few of my neighbours pc's when they gave up on windows !

HP ProBook 455 G2 Notebook was certified with pre-install image, some components might not work with the stock image.

For the wireless card, it should work with 3.13 kernel, as stated in the bug report that I linked here.
For the Bluetooth, I'm not sure which card you're using, you probably need to check the lsusb of lspci output for it.

Hi

Apologies for delay with reply, despite installing Ubuntu on many
machines over 11 years for different people, I do very little from the
command prompt !
I have been trying different settings in the bios to see if it would
help but to no avail.

I did try and run your command in last email but it came up with python
needs to be installed. I did this and ran the command but Ubuntu one
said that My Ubuntu one account would be vunerable to private data so I
declined.

Additional drivers tab only shows graphics alternatives drivers and I do
use one of these.
The wireless adapter does not appear in the list.

I am retired and 75 ! but understand that 14.04 does not yet support
this wireless adapter. However I have downloaded a driver from a dropbox
put there by the manufacturer as it is not on their website and
unpackaged it - file name

Hi Kevin,
I think you don't need to do any command-line stuff for tracking that bug, just subscribe to it.
Of course, you can also open a new bug by using the "ubuntu-bug linux" command in your terminal if you want.

For the Bluetooth, to make it easier to identify you device, you can paste the "lspci -nn" and "lsusb" command output to http://pastebin.ubuntu.com

Another solution will be seeking workarounds on the community forum like http://ubuntuforums.org/ or http://askubuntu.com

Good luck!

Hi

I suspect the bluetooth may all be part of the RTL7823BE PCIe adapter
installing the driver will just make that work.

Did try this at the terminal though:-

lspci -vnn | grep Network

returned:-
02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor C0., Ltd.
RTL8723BE PCIe
Wireless Network Adapter [10ec:b723]

Network appeared in red ?

ispci -nn -d 14e4
sudo apt-get update

(updated system)

Regards
Kevin

Hi,
yes it could be a combo card (wifi + BT), but it will have different name and different category, thus "lspci -vnn | grep Network" would only get the wifi part of it.
And yes, the string found by grep command will be highlighted, that's normal.

I guess your BT controller is a Broadcom one, but I'm not sure, please run "lspci -nn" only.
Thanks

The DWL G122 is an old dlink wireless key I am temporarily using I do
use a cable as well.

I installed 14.04 LTS on HP Pavillion 15 (it's about a year old) for
friend, it all works fine including the wireless.

Also installed 15.04 on a new ssd on this machine but wireless still
does not work, although now the adapter is visible in the drop down
wireless menu greyed out with disabled under it.

Hi,
this is your Bluetooth device:
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 0bda:b001 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

I just opened a bug report for it.

BTW, you might be able to find some workaround on the community forum [1],
just search "0bda:b001" there could lead you there.

Good luck.

Can you help with this problem?
