Feedback on the Dell Vostro 2420

Asked by ABW

On this page: http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201202-10592/ it is not made clear if the version 12.10 made avaliable for vostro 2420 will install properly with all dell specific drivers. I would assume that setting "software sources" to "any new version" would allow me to start a upgrade to 12.10 from 11.10 on my personally owned vostro 2420. But that channel is not made available and support for 11.10 expires in early May. Am I to expect owning a limboed-vostro purchased month ago, or can I expect full Dell/Canonicol support for this laptop?

Hope this provides some useful information. Beyond that, if you look at the file /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades it should say Prompt=lts. Because of this you may not be prompted to upgrade.

Try changing that to say:

Prompt=normal

Then do the following:

sudo apt-get update
do-release-upgrade

which will, hopefully, trigger an upgrade from 11.10 to 13.04. That being said, that's a pretty big leap, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE remember to back up any important, personal, or necessary data to an outside source BEFORE you attempt any sort of upgrade.
FAQ #2137: “What is the update/upgrade path for my pre-installed Ubuntu system?”.

Can you help with this problem?
