Feedback on the Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 11

Asked by Anthony

I just bought a Lenovo Thinkpad edge 11 and tried to install Ubuntu 11.04 on it. There is a problem with the Wifi which does not work. After some investigations, it appears that my machine has a different wifi controller than others.

As mentionned in the Ubuntu certification page on the Lenovo edge 11 (and in several forums), the Wifi Controller should be: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter

Or, on my machine, the wifi controller is described as follow in Windows: 2x2 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adaptater.

You can find details on this controller here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-75618.html

Apparently, there is no linux driver for this controller.

Do you know if it's planned to have this material supported soon?

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Regards,

Anthony

Hi Anthony,

To make sure you definitely have a different card, can you run 'lspci' from a terminal in Ubuntu? The info given from Windows may be ambiguous.

Hi Anthony,

Yeah, your one has Broadcom WiFi. Unfortunately I don't know if or when it will be made to work with Ubuntu.

Thanks Brendan.

Hi Victor, Thanks for helping. I ve tried several stuff such as installing a more recent kernel and also a package with several wifi drivers in it. But I can't remember the name of it.

I guess I should try ndiswrapper.... that will remind me old souvenirs hahahaha.

Thanks for your help anyway if you have any tips to give. If I find a solution, I ll let you know.

Regards,

Anthony
