There are some systems to which you can tailored what devices to use with them. This is especially true for servers. So how do you work out if that device is supported in an specific Ubuntu version?
Easy, you can search for it on the component catalog

The best or most accurate way to search is if you know the PCI ID number for the device, it should look something like [10de:0059]. If you are not sure what the number is for your device, you can try the command "lspci -nn" to get more detailed information.
