Waiting for somebody and text symbol

Asked by Rainer

I am missing a status "Waiting for somebody" or similar, which shows that the task is assigned to somebody and I have to track it that it is done.

Additionally I have would like to add some details in the text field and I would like to see in the overview that a text is available, but I do not want to see the text itself in the overview.

Do you have an idea how I can handle both problems?

Best regards,

Rainer

Hi Rainer

1) There's no support for this "out of the box", but you can easily implement this with a category. If you give the category a nice icon (e.g. a person symbol) and a different color using the "Appearance" tab you can make it stand out easily. Also, I usually give the deleged task a start date in the future (using the day I expect results) so that the task is inactive until that moment.

2) Make the notes column visible in the task viewer and then add notes to the tasks. If a task has one or more notes, a symbol will be shown in the notes column.

Hi Frank,

thank you very much for your answer!

1. I found your solution before I sent the problem in the FAQs but for me it
is not really helpful. For me responsibility and category is something
different - at least when I sort the column I will get a conflict. I am also
used to have another category, which I call "waiting for somebody". I use
this when I have a topic with other people and sometimes I have to wait for
them until I have to do my part. There is also one person who is asking for
that in the FAQs and the proposal is also to use the categories, but then I
would have 3 different things in one column.

2. I do not like how notices are handled. So it is a lot of clicking for me
and it seems not to be consistent for me to show a symbol for notices but no
symbol when the text field is used.

Additionally I am unhappy that I can not sort over more than one column. I
my current time management application I use 3 columns to sort my tasks.

Please do not misunderstand me, I like your application and I appreciate
your efforts, but for me your proposal is an inconvenient workaround. I will
try to do so, because your program is by far for me the best, which offers
subtasks.

Best regards,

Rainer

Hi Rainer,

1) Why not combine the two? Have a category "Waiting for" and then use the names of people as subcategory. Also, you shouldn't really need to have the category column visible if you use filtering by categories.

2) I agree that the notes need too much clicking. I don't agree with you that it's inconsistent. Notes are currently not the same things as description. Maybe it would be a good idea to make them more the same, but that's another issue :-)

Cheers, Frnak
