Stellarium Crashing When Try to Open Following Download

Asked by Claude Prevost

Hello. I recently reformatted my laptop. OS is Windows 7 (32 bit). After downloading Stellarium and trying to open it for the first time I get a message saying it won't start. The message gives an option to search for a solution. I choose that, but nothing happens. The only other option is to close the program (even though it never opened). Details, though, of what happened gives, among other things, this info: event: APPCRASH. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Stellarium, a number of times: always the same thing happens. Anyone have any solutions. I've read all the related info in the Stellarium database, but I'm not finding them helpful. Thanks.

Are you sure you have read these? Esp. the hardware/drivers part.

gzotti suggests this article as an answer to your question:
FAQ #2734: “Common problems with version 0.14”.

Thanks for the rapid response. No, I didn't see FAQ #2734. Since I recently reformatted and upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 on the computer in question, maybe it's my graphics driver if I go by what FAQ #2734 says. Would you be able to suggest how I could check the compatibility of my graphics driver.

Just install the drivers from the card manufacturer, do not use the default driver provided by Windows. Then see what it does. Without information on your PC there is no way to write better help.

OK. I'll have someone help me do this and see what happens. Thanks for additional help!
