Mongolian cosmogony

Asked by Anthony Lagain

Dear Stellarium team,

We are two French PhD students in planetary sciences. At present we are in Mongolia to do some astronomy events since the 7th July until the 15th September in Ursa Major camp. Have at our disposal a telescope of 30 centimeters of diameters (a Meade LX200ACF), we illustrate our comments by doing observe the sky to our auditorium. For more details abour our presence in Mongolia, you can visit our website : www.souslecieldemongolie.wordpress.com.

We take advantages of our presence here to interesting us about the mongolian cosmogony. The ancestral knowledge transmission in this country was essentially verbal. Find some informations about it is very difficult. We stand the chance to be here and to discuss with lot of nomadic people and more generally with lot of Mongolian people.

Since soon two months, we have learned a lot of things about the Mongolian cosmogony and we will very happy to contribute to the diffusion of our knowledge about it.

Using Stellarium since few years, we have thought to share that we have learned by the bias of your software. The mongolian cosmogony is not representing on it. If you are interesting to complete this part of Stellarium, you can contact us by mail at : <email address hidden> and <email address hidden>.

Best regards,

Anthony Lagain & Batiste Rousseau

Thank you for asking. If you can do field research and create a skyculture, this would be very helpful. Please, if you include names, try to find meaning (translation, explanation) for the names as well.

Also the UNESCO portal on astronomical cultural heritage http://www2.astronomicalheritage.net will likely be interested in things astronomical or on Mongolian cosmogony which cannot be presented in Stellarium. Stories, myths, legends...

Good time in Mongolia, the skies are wonderful!

Can you help with this problem?
