Stellaruim in App Store?

Asked by Scott Heyer

I found this application in the App Store, and the screen shots look amazingly similar, but this app is $19.99

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/stellarium-interactive-star/id693454772?mt=12

Is this the same application found at stellaruim.org?

Sorry if I miscommunicated my question; let me be more direct: I believe someone is selling your free open source software, and that it may not be you. Just thought I would help you out by bringing it to your attention. If I am not correct, and you are selling Stellarium in Apple's App Store for $19.99, then I apologize for troubling you.

No this is not Stellarium Mobile.

Stellarium mobile runs on iOS and android. This version seems to target OS X, and has been done by someone else (on itune it shows "luo hui"). It is legal to sell the app, as long as the source code is also provided. At first glance I cannot find a link to the source code though.

Hmm... Looks like GPL violation because no source code or link to our source code.

In addition to the likely (but yet to be proved) GPL violation, there's a conflict between GPL and Apple App Store terms of service: http://www.fsf.org/blogs/licensing/more-about-the-app-store-gpl-enforcement
Is the name "Stellarium" registered?

"Hey there! I get it, $19.99 might seem steep for an app, but Stellarium offers an incredibly detailed and immersive stargazing experience. Plus, investing in it supports ongoing development and updates. As for Temu Reviewer Program, it's a fantastic way to contribute your insights and shape the future of apps like these. Joining could mean early access, exclusive features, and a chance to make your voice heard in app development.
