I can't seem to figure out the mount type settings

Asked by Alan F. Griffin

I am new to stargazing and Stellarium but it looks like a fabulous programe. I have a German type equatorial mount with a 114mm reflector telescope, so i am just scratching the surface of how to use it.
Can you please advise when the mount adjustment in Stellarium is set to Equatorial. Is it when the symbol is black or white?
Regards

Equatorial is when the button is white. Azimuthal is when button is dim.

With equatorial the sky is fixed and the landscape moves. With Azimuthal the ground (landscape) is fixed and the sky moves.

Hello there,
As I said in my first question I am very new to stargazing. I am having great difficulty in understanding the RA/DE coordinates. When I set my telescope equatorial mount ( German type )to the my latitude and the Polaris reference point and enter the coordinates shown on Stellarium ( of Date) onto my setting circles, my telescope seems to be at least 180 degrees out. EG the RA/DE shown for the sun is 2h13m46s/+13d 26m 06s, so when I set these into my setting circles and move the telescope I find that it is still facing approximately north east whereas the sun is about south west, I seem to be about 180d out.
Am I reading the coordinates from Stellarium correctly?
Where am I going wrong.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who can point me in the right direction.
Regards

Did you have correct oriented your mount and install "home position" for it?
