Satellites not showing after update

Asked by Jason Whitener

I just updated to version 0.11.1 on Ubuntu and got a message in red at the top of the screen when loading Stellarium about Satellites not working. Now no satellites are showing up? I tried to uninstall and reinstall stellarium with no success.

I'm assuming there is something wrong with the TLE entries. Is there anyway I could get an updated satellite.json file?

If you remove the file /home/jason/.stellarium/modules/Satellites/satellites.json and then start Stellarium, a fresh one will be copied from the plugin. However, you might also have to add some entries in the [Satellites] section of the config.ini file because we now have more sources. If you edit the /home/jason/.stellarium/config.ini file and delete the whole of the [Satellites] section, a new one will be added when Stellarium starts up.

You should do the edit and the removal of the satellites.json file when Stellarium is not running.

Hope that helps
M

I did what you said Matthew but its still not showing any satellites. I saw one last night around 7:30 or so fly past Venus and saw it on Stellarium last night before I upgraded. Now I'm not seeing it. Also shouldn't I be able to search for satellites?

OK, please check:

1. The Satellites plugin is loaded. Go to the config dialog, plugins tab, and select Satellites from the list. Make sure "Load at startup" is checked. If necessary re-start.

2. That the satellites toolbar button is selected to the on position.

3. In the Satellites configuration dialog, than one or more satellites are enabled. You should be able to select ones which are enabled.

Greets. I have the same problem. I updated all the satellite orbits and check-marked "Load at startup" and I am still not seeing any satellites. Please help, thanks.
