We don't distribute the program as a .zip file, so you didn't get it from an official source. Please follow the links from the front page of http://stellarium.org/

Thank you for answering my question. My problem is this: I heard about the
"Stellarium" program on a radio program and downloaded it. After downloading
I tried to run the program but got a screen message that I have to get some
program to open 'stellarium' . the message suggested Winzip. I subsequently
downloaded Winzip but am still unable to run Stellarium which is a bit
frustrating> what do I do wrong?

Maybe you downloaded the source code .tar.gz file (labelled for Linux) instead of the .exe Windows installer. I assume you're using windows, since you have winzip. You should download this link (select the same link from the main web page):

https://sourceforge.net/projects/stellarium/files/Stellarium-win32/0.10.6/stellarium-0.10.6.1.exe

Dear Mathew Gates, I am still batteling to get Stellarium going. your
message suggests I go to the hyperlink
...Stellarium,win32.0=10.6/stellarium....but on that website there is
nothing about windows it still only has the stellarium.0.10.tar.gz download.
I would desperately like to get this program going but whichever download I
try brings me not nearer to a solution. What do I do wrong. Can you perhaps
take me through the whole operation step by step frm the beginning. Sorry to
be such trouble but somewhere I do things incorrectly. I have since wiped
the winzip program as it does not work and contemplate downloading
adobereader.
Yours LP Vermaak
