New slogan/tagline/description to go under title

Asked by Evan Boldt

Spreadubuntu needs a phrase that will show underneath the title, and I'm asking you what it should be. Let's see some creativity.

It should be in plain language for translatability.

It should focus on our overall goal / purpose / activity, not specific. Meaning I don't want "Ubuntu marketing material repository". This is because we may add features and activities in the near future.

Some of my ideas (please come up with some of your own too!)
"tell your friends!"
"spread the Ubuntu goodness"
"spread the word"
"Ubuntu marketing movement"

I'm open to unique slogans, and carefully crafted descriptions.

I have thought this through a little...
IMO the slogan has to contain "Ubuntu" and "marketing", so:

Ubuntu Community Marketing
Ubuntu Marketing Challenge
Ubuntu Marketing Place
Ubuntu Marketing Goodness
Ubuntu Marketing Collective

or:
Ubuntu Promotion Collective
Ubuntu Propaganda

Regards,
Steven.

As porposed earlier here: http://ubuntu.ec/su/ubuntu-drupal/

- Spread Ubuntu | Home of the Ubuntu Marketing Community -

We want people to know that the marketing exists and that they can be part of it. Remember that this site is not only a material repository, but also a marketing resource and campaign site.

Our focus until now had been the Do-It-Yourself repo, but now that that has been done Evan has worked out new features (Campaigns, news ++) which take us closer to SpreadUbuntu as a marketing site with several functions (info, campaigns, material) giving us tools to coordinate our global marketing activities. this will be even more visible when the LoCo directory gets integrated in Launchpad as a tool and we take adventage of it through our Launchpad integration (predefining languages, translation options, etc...)

So, we should go a little bit more eager with our slogan:

- Serving YOU real innovation as freedom
- Get your bang for the buck: choose freedom
- Giving everyone Freedom
- Friendly by default
- You'll be thanked
- Marketing is not a crime!
- Open your mind and your choices will follow

My €0.02

Hello:

The effectiveness of any adveristing catch phrase is based on what it can do for the potenial customer, why they should buy and least important what it is. People tend to be scared off by the word "free", because they don't think of freedom first. So stressing the word freedom here is good.

In order for any effective campain to work for free software there has to be money behind i., Iit was real nice of Mr. Shuttleworth to create Ubuntu because it is a good flavor of Linux and freindly to new users. However, without money for real marketing you are "preaching to the chior". The people that you need to reach are windows users not people using other distros. Distro wars and fighting within the Linux community does nothing but scare off new users and promote Microsoft.

What is actuly needed for the free software community as a whole is a cross the borad project that is focused entirely on marketing in mainstream media. That means real money for real adveristing, tux the peguin on Times Square, ads on the 6 o'clock news on the major TV networks in the USA and simular mediums overseas.

Sure when I hit the $100.000.000 powerball lottery, I will be happy to pledge a couple of million to get this started. But maybe the next time someone thinks of starting a foundation, this is what the objective should be not rolling out yet another flavor of Linux.

Wow. Great ideas!

I agree with Steven De Baets now that the description should include those two words, or at least Ubuntu and a synonym for marketing.

If we were to go with a slogan, I think that the slogan should be directed at the Ubuntu Spreader, and not be a line directed to the subjects of the marketing.

Here's a weird one:
"Ubuntu marketing for human beings"

Lets try to refine these ideas a little bit. Here are some that I like:
"You'll be thanked"
"Ubuntu Marketing Collective"
"Ubuntu Promotion Collective"
"The Ubuntu Marketing Effort"
