Any benefit to adjusting Xmx setting?

Asked by Brian Redmond

Hi Raiman,
I noticed the -Xmx512M option in the runsikulix script for setting the maximum Java heap size. Would there be any reason to change that value? For instance, would raising that value have any practical effect on SikuliX or would there be no noticeable difference?

not generally.
depends on your system and your application.

the above mentioned value is there, because it has been there from the beginning of Sikuli ;-)

On modern systems with Java 6+ one usually only need to specify heap size or generally memory related options when running into problems with the defaults (which in turn are optimised based on the system running on).

On systems with low memory (< 4 GB) one might run into problems with the defaults in rare situations using Sikuli.
