I am a newbie, and need instructions on how to download SBL. I need to install it on a MacTex Package 2013.

Asked by Nhaps

I need to know how to download the latest SBL Latex style/template. Don't know how to navigate well on this site. I am a Macuser and have MacTex 2013.

I am writing my dissertation in Biblical Studies, and will be using the new SBL Hebrew font. Thanks very much for your attention, and God bless!

Hi,

I haven't done anything on it for a while and my server with the main
repository on it crashed.

I'll see if I can get things together over the next few days and get it
running under OS X.

Do you know TeX well? I don't have an easy way to install it, but I can
try and help you as much as I have time.

Hi Nhaps,

I managed to get get SBL LaTeX working again under MacTeX Basic 2013 with extra required styles installed from CTAN. You should be fine using the full version of MacTeX 2013.

Download it from http://marshwiggle.net/sbllatex/

Feel free to email me if you need further help. My email address is on the above webpage.

Hello David,

You have no idea how timely this is, thank you for uploading the files. I am testing them tonight. BTW, there is a new complementary SBL font available now: http://www.sbl-site.org/educational/BiblicalFonts_SBLBibLit.aspx. I will be testing it as well. Thank you again for making SBL Latex rise again (from the ashes).

No Worries, Nhaps.

I am aware of the new font and it should be straight forward to use it.
Some changes in the greek and hebrew related style files should do it.
You could also use it for the main font. However, it's lack of bold and
italic variants makes it fairly useless for body text at this stage.
Besides that, I've never seen transliteration text not set in italic
either...

BTW, the install.sh script needs to be run from a terminal. Linux is my
main platform, so pretty much everything is set up to be easy under
Linux, not OS X. So no graphical installers or anything. It's not too
complex to figure out though I think.

I should get back to maintaining it. But the temptation to waste too
much time on it could be problematic...

Since you are writing a dissertation, I do have my final year project
which was a little longer than an essay and included some extras such as
a table of contents and abbreviations. Let me know if you'd like another
example.
