How to start Redshift?

Asked by Danté

In Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04, I cannot start Redshift. At least, the GTK version.

I have no window, no indicator, nothing.

I have been able to start it through the terminal, but I do not have much experience there.

So tell me, how do I start it with a GUI, considering every time I click the menu option to start it, my computer just thinks about it for a second and does nothing?

To be able to start Redshift from the menu in Ubuntu, you have to set your current location in the clock applet.

I have done so, in Ubuntu 11.04. The applet was replaced.

My location is marked as my timezone (London) but still, the application does nothing when I start it up, and running from the terminal still tells me I have no location set.

I think the version of redshift in Ubuntu 11.04 is 1.6, which means
that you should be able to make a config file (see
http://jonls.dk/2010/10/redshift-1-6-released/ ) with your location
manually entered.

Can you help with this problem?
