Portable Edition will not launch

I've been attempting to run RedNotebook on two computers with Portable Apps. However, RedNotebook will only run on one of them. The log file is not updated when the application is launched, and isn't created if I try to run a fresh install. Currently the process lasts only as long as the splash-screen before terminating. What should I do to investigate further?

I just installed and tried version 1.6.6, but with similar results. The process doesn't appear to launch at all though (I suspect it may be related to not having a "Portable Apps" slashscreen).

Hi I am the developer/packager of the Portables Apps one what OS is it installed on a usb device or on main hard drive? Which version of Rednotebook? and I know it sounds stupid but did you get the installer frm the Portableapps.com site or somewhere else?

Both operating systems are Windows 7. I've been running the app on the hardrive inside a dropbox folder. I followed the link on the PortableApps site which linked me to version 1.7.1 on sourceforge.

Thanks foor the reponse I willsee if I can replicate your setup later tonight (sorry at work now) I know I have tested it in a local install in a folder (However it can not reside in the programs folder) as well as on a usb HD.

HI I just downloaded it from Portabloeapps Sourceforge page, installed it in my Drop box folder ( C:\Users\Patrick\Dropbox\RedNotebookPortable) on my hd then ran the file RedNotebookPortable.exe and has opened with out any issues? Are you launching that file or the or the rednotebook.exe in the Apps folder? I had modified this so that the pprotable program launches quicker whic then requires that it definitely be run from the RedNotebookPortable.exe file.

Not sure if that helps or not?

I guess if he is able to run it on one computer but not on the other

I have the same problem. I installed the 1.7.1 Portable edition version.

My setup is Windows 7.
ASUS ZenBook UX32V Notebook

Try right clicking on the Rednotebookptable.exe file adn run as administrator please

It did not work either :( I have the same problem with the "official" version as well. And I tried the version 1.6.6 as well.

Do you see any log in the PortableApps version it should be in theLocation of your PortableRednote book folder:\RedNotebookPortable\Data\usersettings.

At this point with out any data it s hard to determine what issue is as I have had it working nw on XP, 7 and Win 8 all without issue. What is your UAC level on the computer?

No. There is no log file there, since it never started I guess.

The User Account Control level is on the lowest bar (Never notify).

Not sure if this helps, but I had a problem with RN not launching (installed version on Windows 7). It would only flash a blank white window. In my case, I did find a log file, C:\Users\craig\.rednotebook\rednotebook.log, that told me that I had messed up one of my .txt files when I did some manual edits.

It would be nice if RN would display a dialog box when this happens, "There was an error loading your data files, so RN cannot proceed. Please see (full-path-to-log-file) for details. "
