Still Can't view my front page

Asked by thevoice

This question relates to my earlier question, which I thought I had resolved, (you said) by posting a story to the right category.

This has not worked. I am still getting "access denied" page instead of the front page with the news stories posted.

I really need to understand why this is happening, because I have worked so doggone hard to get this site up and running, and it is now becoming very frustrating.

I would like to be able to type the url www.peoplesvoiceweekly.us -- into the browser, and see the front page as I have designed it. The only way I can see the front page is log in as an administrator

Okay, I have finally figured it out. I think part of the issue was related to how I had the site configured. I enabled Front page views, which was previously disabled in the views dialog. This did change the appearance of what I'm seeing, while in admin mode. But, I still am not pleased with what I am seeing....

I finally tried setting up a totally different email account, and then logging in as a complete stranger. Then, I was able to see the front page, but this time the left sidebar blocks had disappeared, and there was this great big old HUGE menu in white, spread all across my header image. I don't see that on the ProsePoint Demo site. Why are all the strange things happening to my site?

... and the documentation that I am reading, does not provide me with enough information to make the changes I want to make.

So, I still have the problem

Is every user who types in the url and tries to access the news going to get an "access denied" message unless they register as a user?

I assumed that when I hit my front page, I would see everything I see when I'm in admin mode. Problem is that it's hard to judge, because ProsePoint will not allow me to just visit the url as an anonymous user would. It seems to "know" me now.

Am I correct in assuming that the site will prohibit anyone from viewing it unless they are logged in.

It has taken days for me to figure all this out.

It seems like, every time I think I've got one thing fixed up, then it creates another issue.

APPEARANCE: I am also interested in changing the size and appearance of the fonts in the "blocks" My blocks are not looking right.

[Side comment]: If this is supposed to be designed as an easy efficient program, I'm telling you now, it is NOT.
I have caught the devil. I guess I'm into my 2nd week of fooling around with this program. I've actually visited several sites where this theme is in use, and they look wonderful. But, I have pulled my hair out trying to figure out how to configure the site so I can start posting stories. I have an M.Ed and I know I have SOME sense. But, this is ridiculous! It's too complicated, and there's too much to remember, to make it work the way you need it to work.

Hi,

I've logged into your site and had another look.

Your frontpage is configured correctly. However...

It looks like you've turned off the permission 'access content' for anonymous users (see .../admin/user/permissions). If you turn this off, then non-logged in users won't be able to see any content. That's also why when you visit your site with another browser, it says access denied.

It also looks like you've changed/disabled/enabled a number of the other permissions as well. This is likely to be one cause of your many issues. It's probably not the only cause either.

At this point, since you've changed so many things on your site (many of which are not meant to be used with ProsePoint), it becomes unfeasible for me to continue to provide you with free support.

Sorry.

I accept your feedback about the software not being quite easy enough to use. We will address this in future releases of ProsePoint.

Thank you.

I really don't understand what you mean by

"you've changed so many things on your site (many of which are not meant to
be used with ProsePoint),
it becomes unfeasible for me to continue to provide you with free support"

Exactly what did I change that is not to be used with ProsePoint? I really
need to understand. After all, you promote this as a "fully customizable"
program. Everything I have "CHANGED" has been related to items that have
been included in the guide that accompanies the software. So, I don't get
what you are talking about. Now is it or is it not. And please explain to
me exactly what is "off-limits" in terms of what can or can't be
customized, because this is not clear from your guide.

I don't understand what kind of development this is. You write a program,
and you promote it as being appropriate for newspaper and magazine
publishers, you say its customizable, and then, when issues arise, you
claim that I've somehow violated some "code of conduct" when it comes to
using the program. Has that been made clear in the documentation?

I really need a better explanation than you have given me.

The information that you provided in your last message did in fact resolve all the issues that I have been having with viewing the front page of the publication.

Thank you kindly for your previous support, and in light of all the concerns that you raised in your email to me, I will not BOTHER you again regarding this program. I suppose if I've earned a Masters Degree in Education, I have sense enough to resolve any future issues that may arise independently.
