OpenShot for Karmic

Asked by Martin G Miller

I have started to find negative posts about OpenShot causing serious problems when installed from your ppa.
http://old.nabble.com/Openshot-video-editing-software-Karmic-Koala-td26152070.html
The above link warns you to stay away because of totem and vlc problems.

I did have this exact issue in 9.04 and managed to fix it and go back to the .deb install.
Unfortunately, OpenShot no longer runs at all in Karmic. It just grays out and I have to force quit.

When will a version for Karmic be released as .deb? I am still a little leary of using your .ppa.
Or can you tell me when the ppa is fixed so it doesn't kill totem and vlc in Karmic?

Thanks for the question. We are aware of the issues with Ubuntu 9.10, and
we are working on it. I'll have a new PPA soon that works with 9.10, and
doesn't screw up everything else. =) Also, we'll have some new DEB
installers for 9.10 soon. Please stand by.

Thank you for your answer. I eagerly await the 9.10 compatible version.

My current install is 32 bit that has been upgraded many times since Ubuntu 5.04!!!
There is a good chance that I will be reinstalling my system so I can take advantage of 64 bit. Will your new version have support for 64 bit 9.10 and will I see improvements in rendering times, etc. I have a triple core AMD with 4 gig of ram.

Again, thank you for your excellent and exciting work on this project.

Yes, we will have support for 64 bit Ubuntu 9.10. It should be a little
faster. But the performance of OpenShot has yet to really be addressed.
For example, we still have some issues with multi-core architectures
(because of Python), and MLT has a few performance issues. Hopefully we'll
address that stuff soon.
