Feature request: opacity masks

Asked by TonyKnott

I didn't know about the concept of Luma transitions and I'm surprised at how clever it is at combining power and simplicity.

Inspired by it, I'd like to ask the following feature: opacity masks for videos based on grayscale images.

This would allow fine-grained control over video transparency and allow a lot of cool effects.

Does MLT support this?

Hello Tony,

This is already implemented in OpenShot.

You can add svg grayscale images to the system by copying them to the openshot/openshot/transitions folder.

To use as a mask instead of a transition, just place the transition luma on the timeline. Then right click on the transition and select to convert it to a mask.

I will convert this to a question because it is not a bug, and it is a feature already in OpenShot.

You can also use PNG (or other bitmap formats).

Ok, solved.

But this feature definitely needs more advertisement. :)

Hi

I've created a PNG file to use as a mask.
Ive droped it in
/usr/share/pyshared/openshot/transitions
and
/home/rnwolf/.openshot/transitions
on Ubuntu Lucid with OpenShot from standard repositories.

But this png file does not appear in the transitions selection menu as expected? I see all of the default ones starting with Dissolve.

Same for me. New transition does not appear in the list, only the built-in transitions starting with Dissolve which is out of alphabetical order.
