Howto move multiple clips at once

Asked by Stephan Gromer

Dear all

It seems a fairly basic task to me, yet I am unable to manage it (quickly) (I may have missed something in the OpenShot manual but I couldn't find a solution via Google either. If that's the case, please direct me to that spot)

Ok. I have multiple clips put on my timeline. Now I decide to either add another, or delete one, or to cut one and remove a part between already existing clips.
Example
[Clip1][Clip2][Clip3][Clip4]
Now, I would like to remove e.g. clip2.
[Clip1] [Clip3][Clip4]
Unfortunately, I am unable simply move and append all the clips behind at once in order to get to
[Clip1][Clip3][Clip4]
At present I have to manually move each and every single one of them, which is tiresome and error prone.
Is there an easier way (like grouping clips, or selecting multiple clips for moving)?
System used: Ubuntu 10.10; OpenShot 1.3.0

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you very much and thank you for OpenShot!
Regards
 Stephan

Oh, Launchpad remove my blanks. Using dots instead:
Example
[Clip1][Clip2][Clip3][Clip4]
Now, I would like to remove e.g. clip2.
[Clip1] ...........[Clip3][Clip4]
Unfortunately, I am unable simply move and append all the clips behind at once in order to get to
[Clip1][Clip3][Clip4]

Hi,
For removing a clip, you just must select it and right clic >remove. He is just remove on the timeline.
Unfortunately, we have not yet implanted the possibility to move (and remove) several clips at the same time. However, You have the possibility to add clips with or not some transitions at the same time.
Thanks.

Dear Cenwen

Thank you for your answer. Removing a clip wasn't my problem. But any task (inserting a new clip, removing a clip or just moving one around) with a lot of clips already in place becomes a tedious job. So I'd appreciate any effort to handle multiple clips already in the timeline at once. Unfortunately I am poor coder, so I won't be able to assist you. Would a donation help?

Kind regards
 Stephan

I'm also interested in this bug, because it's a pain having to move 100 clips manually when you want to rearrange them.

The main problem is removing and adding new clips in the beginning/middle of the timeline when your project has grown:

1. REMOVING CLIPS:

Currently I check clip properties, write down in a paper the Duration, and use the "Move Clips" feature with -duration to move all clips back in time and fill the gap, but it would be very nice to have the option to "autocollapse" clips to fill gaps:

[CLIP1].....[CLIP2][CLIP3].....[CLIP4]

(You click in AUTOCOLLAPSE)

[CLIP1][CLIP2][CLIP3][CLIP4]

This way you can happily remove clips and rearrange the timeline automatically. If you need to insert a new clip,

2.- ADDING CLIPS:

Currently I check the new clip properties, write down in a paper the Duration, and use the "Move Clips" feature with +duration to leave gap for the clip, and then I move it.

It would be nice to have an option to add an item to the timeline automatically moving all the clips in that point after or before it.

 Thanks!

That is what actually missing to make Openshot a complete Video editor.

The inability to select multiple clips in the timeline and set a property is the main current problem.

Anyway it is a great effort, and we wish to keep continuesly improved!

Such a basic feature. How to do that if you have 10,20,30 clips and you need to insert one new clip before all of them?

In Kdenlive there is special tool named "spacer tool". If you drag somewhere and move it to the right, everything right of this position is moved too.

Is it hard to implement it?

I'm not sure but I think that a shortcut exists. Try the window keyboard.
