ac3 encoding segfaults

Asked by NachoR

Hi!

Openshot 1.3 works fine for me... except when ac3 encoding is needed.

Whenever I try to export (simply using any DVD preset) a video that uses ac3 for audio encoding, it segfaults immediately after pressing "Export Video".

from terminal, it just says when button is clicked:
NEW SDL CONSUMER
Violación de segmento

(In Spanish, Segment Violation)

I tried to reinstall from rpm openshot, mlt, ffmpeg, and to delete my ~/.openshot folder, but is always the same for me.

In my net book (with Ubuntu 10.10) it works fine. But it's logically sloooow. So I need my desktop for video editing.

I'm using:
OpenSUSE 11.4 (x86_64)
Kernel 2.6.37.1
Openshot 1.3.0-0.pm.8.1
mlt 0.6.2-1.pm.1.2
blender -2.56.34784-106.3
ffmpeg-0.6.201103092102git-1.pm.2.2 (and all its related libavcodec.... etc)

I tried also to export as XML, and see it with melt from comand line, and works OK. And also tried to encode from command line, using ffmpeg and ac3 codec, and it did work also.

Cannot understand what is failing...

Previous to upgrade to OpenSUSE 11.4, in 11.3 there was a similar problem: no sound whenever ac3 was involved. But no segfault. It seems related, but I cannot guess why it's happening

Any help welcome

Thanks!

Nacho

hi,
We have seen that on the forum (the topic is here : http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=854) so I don't give you the same answer. But I must said that 's strange because me too, I don't see something bad. You have the good version of ffmpeg with the good encoder/decoder so normally, it should works out-of-box.

I'm on Ubuntu (Natty, upgraded to Onery) and I'm unable to encode with ac3- I don't see anything telling me this is a pay-only codec, nor any diagnotics that the ac3 codec isn't found...

I'm really new to all this, but I'm open to providing information, etc...

Ah ah. So normally, you should use the official version (i.e. this one which are in the Ubuntu repository) 0.7.4.
On Oneiric, this one have a lot of problem (in fact, to be precise, all the 0.7.x series). So the only advice that I can give you it to update this one each time that you'll see this problem not resolved.
You must add the sunab PPA and if all is working after this update, think to deactivate it.

yOu have the link at the end of the Ubuntu section.
