stabilize the image of a video

Asked by tenertener@yahoo.com

OpenShot is a great program. It is possible to stabilize the image of a video to eliminate vibration, with some of the effects. If not, what could be done?

Hey cenwen, if you don't mind the command-line interface, Transcode has a decent video stabilizer:
http://public.hronopik.de/vid.stab/features.php?lang=en

To the devs: the plugin is GPL'ed. If that's kosher with OpenShot's license (I don't know), perhaps the code could be incorporated? The plugin code is around 1000 lines of C.

Hi Matthew,
Very thanks for the link, i must said that i don't know it.
I know well, same very well, Transcode. It is a great and powerful software always in production ( http://tcforge.berlios.de/index.html) that i call the "father" of FFmpeg same if the "soon" is now more tall than him. I love it so much that i have same imagine to create a software like Gtranscode/ QTranscode/Qripper., it will be a great and instructive exercise. And he can works with MJpegtools and FFmpeg. But i must said that i have never yet use the filters, unfortunatly.

About the license, Openshot is using the GPLv3 so i don't think that at this level there is no problem for using it. A lot of big features are planned (at a long period) and they need for working to add some externals tools. So, if we use this filter we must use Transcode too and it will help FFmpeg in several's tasks and also if we put a conversion tool. But we are waiting the Jonathan's decision.

In all cases, thanks for the link, i wasn't knowing it and if it is a track very interesting to implement this sort of tool in Openshot.

Let me crosslink to:

Also it would worth to see how kdenlive implemented it and factorize this part if possible:
