Import Validation ends in horizontal pink bar without error message.

Asked by Gilles Lehoux

I am trying to import a table of products. I've performed imports of other objects where I've had to solve problems reported by the "validate" button. For this import attempt, the validate button reported some problems and I fixed them. The last time I tried to validate, the process ended with a horizontal pink bar with no error message. I would not dare to import date with at least an Ok from the validate. It's not a guarantee of data perfection but it is a minimum to me. This is a show stopper.

OpenERP v7, 2014-02-23, No uninstalled updates.
Server: Ubuntu 12.04
Client: Win7, Firefox.

This smells like a bug. I haven't found any bugs or questions here that resemble it. Could the error message be present in the html source but be hidden by formatting?

What happens if the csv file is large and the errors are simple but numberous? Will there be an overflow? Will the page display no errors if there are too many errors? There are 1842 records in this file.

How can I attach a file, a screen cap, to a question? I don't see a link for it.

I split the csv into chunks of about 450 records and then I could proceed. Anyone with significantly more records to import will find this tiresome.

So, anyone want to comment on whether I should report a bug or is this a normal limitation for this software stack?

Could it be a silent script timeout?

I've found errors in the products imported. They tend to be located towards the end of the file and the fields tend to be set the the default value rather than the csv value. It seems like a read buffer was filled and then the system assumed that the rest of the fields were undefined and therefore must be filled with default values.
