Export High Resolution PNG Sequence

Asked by Troy McClellan

Would it be possible to add a feature that would allow for exporting image sequences at 30 frames per second at up to 4,096 in image size? This would be very helpful for planetarium show productions that are distributed in Dome Master format.

Thanks,

Troy McClellan

This feature already exists, although there are a few caveats.

It writes out in BMP format.

To get 4096 output set your resolution to that in your config.ini file (your window manager must support this large a window at least on a virtual desktop).

To get 30 fps, in your config.ini in the [video] section, set "video_record_fps" to 30. It will not write out at 30 fps in real time unless you have spectacular hardware. But when you encode the frames to video it will be correct.

Because it is not real time, you should script what you want to record, play the script, and then record those frames with the SHIFT-CTRL-v keystroke (same keystroke to stop recording).

Do I set the resolution in screen h and w [video] section? Can I specify a folder where the .BMP files will be saved?

Thanks,

Troy

Currently it will always output to your home directory.

Yes, set your resolution in [video] screen_h and screen_w (and set fullscreen to false).

Rob,

Thanks. I figured out the video resolution, but I don't have the line "video_record_fps" in my config.ini under the video section. Do I need to just add it? Also, where do you specify the home directory?

Thanks,

Troy

Yes, just add the video_record_fps line.

Your home directory is defined by your operating system.
