No Myth Web Browser Displayed

Asked by jackofspeed21

When I select Myth Web Browser from within Myth there nothing to select. But in Applications and Plugins for Myth Control Center everything is selected including Mythbrowser. What is the additional Apt Get method you mention in the dialog for apss and plugins?
I also have a 36 inch Sony Wega that I would like to use via S- video from my Nvidia 5200 video card, but currently cannot . How can I configure this? LinuxMCE had a nice little front end config app for making the change from a PC monitor to TV NTSC.
Thanks.
Sly.

To force S-Video out with an Nvidia card, first make sure the Nvidia drivers are installed then add the "TVStandard" & "TVOutFormat" option to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file in the section shown below. Change the TVStandard option to whatever format your country uses.

Section "Device"
Identifier "Your Video Card Name Here"
    Driver "nvidia"
    [... other configuration options...]
    Option "TVStandard" "NTSC-M"
    Option "TVOutFormat" "SVIDEO"
End Section

Not quite as easy as with LinuxMCE, but this is pretty much the standard way that will work with any Linux distro using Xorg. For me, I honestly never had to do this. I have an Nvidia 5500 and it automatically sent signal out of the SVIDEO port. I did have to boot from the CD using Safe Graphics Mode, though. After that it sent to the TV without any configuration on my part during installation and after everything was up and running.

Not sure about the issue you're having with MythWeb. Sorry.

Great thanks for the quick response! From what little I understand about
Linux Distro's my video card should just 'work' without having to add any
additional drivers? It's an Nvidia 5200x card AGP. From what I understand
pretty standard and linux should already have drivers for this?
Thanks.
Sly.

Linux does have it's own form of nvidia drivers, and it will "just work" out of the box, but unfortunately they are far from as good as the binary ones from Nvidia. You will notice a marked improvement in video performance between running with the included ones verses the binary ones (LiveTV is unwatchable on my system without it. extremely choppy).

In the current download of Mythbuntu, the binary driver installer during installation is broken (will cause the whole thing to lock up). Just don't bother with it during installation. It's confirmed fixed for the beta 1 release, though. You also can't download the driver via the Mythbuntu Setup afterwards either until you can get out to a command line (Hitting Ctrl+Alt+F1 will do this. Hit Alt+F7 to get back to MythTV) and run an "apt-get update" to update the repository information. After that, it will work fine. In fact, I'd recommend doing a full "apt-get dist-upgrade" to get all the latest fixes from the dev team. There were a lot of improvments to the Mythbuntu Setup Utility.

The beta release should be available later today or tomorrow. Might want to grab it and give it a shot then see if your problems are fixed.

I just want to verify that you added some websites in the setup of the myth web browser.

Can you help with this problem?
