Trying to add desktop to mythbuntu-download fails

Asked by Brian

I am trying to add a desktop to my mythbuntu install using Mythbuntu control center, the control center loads the first few hundred packages then gives me the following error "could not download all required files please check your internet connection". I am currently using a wired connection, but will switch to wireIess.
I am a new linux user, I am trying to install the desktop as this is the only way I know how to troubleshoot uncooperative hardware.

Hi Brian,

This is because apt needs to be updated. It would appear that older
versions are not published.
Run an 'apt-get update' and then you will be able to do this no trouble.

Thank you for the quick response!
How do I get to something such as "gedit" in mythbuntu?

There is an update to the control centre coming out in a day or two.
From the control centre, there will be a button for synaptic as well as
a terminal easily openable.

For now though, command line is the only way.
