Fractions, exponents, pi, etc

Asked by dse

Does this flash card software support fractions with a horizontal line, exponents, characters, and algebraic characters like pi, etc.? If not, does anyone know of a sw that does?
Thanks very much.

You can write equations in Latex notation, and Mnemosyne will make use of
that.

Would the latex notation allow flash cards with complex formulas like these?:

Is there a guide for implementing latex into Mnemosyne on Windows? I've used the search and I cannot find one. I've changed and increased the size of the default font, but I cannot seem to get a space where latex text ends and normal text resumes. And I'm guessing this will not be my only question as I try to make this work.
I'm new to latex, as I'm sure you gathered, so obviously I'm not an expert and I appreciate your help.

If you want to combine math and text, you'll find that you get the most
consistent results if you also put your text in latex mode.

Thanks. Is there a usage guide for latex on Mnemosyne on Windows? I'd like to have a reference to try to answer my own question if possible.

There are several latex tutorials available. None of them are specific to
Windows or to the way Mnemosyne uses them.

When I enclose all of my text within <latex></latex> the text turns to italics after "^" signs. The only way I can find to work around this is to enclose each "^n" within its own <latex></latex>. And doing that doesn't work here: <latex>$\frac {x^3}{2}</latex> where the x is in italics and I can't figure out why. Can you tell me what I might be doing wrong or give me a work-around? the info I've found on the internet about latex doesn't seem to be working for me in Mnemosyne. What I read seems very straight-forward until I try to implement it in Mnemosyne and in Mnemosyne it gets inconsistent. Please help me find what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

x is in italics because Latex thinks it looks better this way :-) Seriously
though, Latex has it's own idea of math should be formatted, which is not
something Mnemosyne can do much about.

(I thought you were talking about combining text and math in the same
question, like 'the square is x^2')

Yes I'm trying to combine text and math. Surely latex doesn't switch between italics and non-italics on other platforms as it is doing for me. Will you please help me? I'm sure you're a gifted programmer if this is your program, but I'm not getting any help at all. Am I the first to use latex with Mnemosyne? No? Have others gotten these results? Surely not. Can I get some support and not just short snarky comebacks that show 0 concern for my difficulties?

In that case you need the \textrm latex command, like in
<$>a^2 \textrm { this is text } a^2</$>

(Saying that I have no concern for your problems is entirely untrue, but
luckily, I'm not easily offended :-) )

This is very useful. Thank you. Can you point me to the best guide for latex syntax? I'm sure I'll need answers to more questions as new situations arise.

Contrary to what you think, I no LaTeX expert :-) Googling 'latex tutorial'
turns up quite a few hits, but I can't tell you which one is best, as I
haven't read any of them...

Can you help with this problem?
