lhapdf6_py3 does not contain lhapdf-config

Hello, I tried to install LHAPDF6 through MadGraph (version 3.5.1) and after installation I receive the same issue for setting the lhapdf variable. I had this installation log:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PDF SETS

LHAPDF no longer bundles PDF set data in the package tarball.
The sets are instead all stored online at
  http://lhapdfsets.web.cern.ch/lhapdfsets/current/
and you should install those that you wish to use into
  /home/maximlysnk/MG5_aMC_v3_5_1/HEPTools/lhapdf6_py3/share/LHAPDF

The downloadable PDF sets are packaged as tarballs, which
must be expanded to be used. The simplest way to do this is with
the 'lhapdf' script, e.g. to install the CT10nlo PDF set:
  lhapdf install CT10nlo
The same effect can be achieved manually with, e.g.:
  wget http://lhapdfsets.web.cern.ch/lhapdfsets/current/CT10nlo.tar.gz -O- | tar xz -C /home/maximlysnk/MG5_aMC_v3_5_1/HEPTools/lhapdf6_py3/share/LHAPDF

Clearly an incompatibility between your compiler, your version of python and lhapdf version.
But I do not know the secret combination that works.

My python3 version is 3.10.6 and g++ version is 11.3.0. I have python 2 installed as well having version 2.7.18. . I wanted to ask a question in case I try to install the external version of lhapdf6 which mg5 installs, in which case is 6.3.0. .

What is the difference between lhapdf and lhapdf_py3 variables in the mg5_configuration.txt file?

Hi,

The point is that you were able to provide two path for lhapdf
one for python2 (lhapdf_py2) and one for python3 (lhapdf_py3).
Then mg5 will internally only use a third variable (lhapdf) which is set automatically to
the py2 or py3 version depending of your version of python.

We should/can get rid of those options now.
This was designed for people testing python2/python3 during the transition period.
Now we only officially support python3 (even if the LTS version still allows to run with python2).
So it is indeed time to limit back to one path.

I think the problem is that I do not have any pdf set in /usr/local/share/LHAPDF. Is there a particular reason that MG5 tries to install NNPDF23_lo_as_0130_qed set? If so, where can I find the setting within the run_card of the process.

Hi,

You need to change the permission of /usr/local/share/LHAPDF
such that you/Mg5aMC are allow to add PDF set within that directory.
If you do not want to change the permission of that directory then you need to install all the needed PDF set in advance (or change the path where LHAPDF wants to install his directory)

Hello, I changed the permissions to the directory such that MG5 was able to download and install the stated NNPDF23_lo_as_0130_qed pdf set. But I wonder why during the launch process, this is the specific pdf set MG5 tends to download and install, is there a setting that I can change so that MG5 download another pdf set?

So this is (one) of the default pdf set that we use.
If you want to use another pdf, you need to change the run_card.dat
and set
pdlabel to lhapdf
and lhaid to the id of the set that you want to use.

Then if that set is not yet installed in /usr/local/share/LHAPDF then madgraph will automatically download it and install it (and then use it)

I set the options in run_card.dat this way:

     lhapdf = pdlabel ! PDF set
     247000 = lhaid ! if pdlabel=lhapdf, this is the lhapdf number

in which 247000 is the number of the pdf set I want to use. I wanted to ask if this is the correct way to do?
