LHAPDF6 and python 3.10

Hi,

I'm trying to install LHPADF6 through the MadGraph5 interface, but it seems the current version used in the HEPToolsInstaller (LHAPDF 6.3.0) is no longer compatible with python 3.10 (see installation log file below).
I've checked that LHAPDF 6.5.3 is compatible with python 3.10, so it should be a matter of asking the installer to install this version instead.

Is there an easy way to specify which version of LHAPDF to be installed? Since the HEPToolsInstaller is fetched from the web server every time we do a new install, it is not as simple as changing the version number in HEPToolInstaller.py.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PDF SETS

LHAPDF no longer bundles PDF set data in the package tarball.
The sets are instead all stored online at
  http://lhapdfsets.web.cern.ch/lhapdfsets/current/
and you should install those that you wish to use into
  /home/lessa/MonoXSMS/MG5/HEPTools/lhapdf6_py3/share/LHAPDF

The downloadable PDF sets are packaged as tarballs, which
must be expanded to be used. The simplest way to do this is with
the 'lhapdf' script, e.g. to install the CT10nlo PDF set:
  lhapdf install CT10nlo
The same effect can be achieved manually with, e.g.:

Hi,

In the past, LHAPDF API to fortran have been in the past quite unstable (i.e. we have a bunch a if statement within the code for the handling of every lhapdf version (some if statement going deep to the debug version level). So I'm afraid that supporting 6.5.3 is much more than changing a number in a file.

Additionally, couple of weeks ago, lhapdf was crashing on my computer (with latest version at that time).
lhapdf6 seems to indicate that it was not an API issue but an ARM related, but still nothing was working.
So I can not update the official supported version as long as we do not have succeed to make it work at least once.

I will try to give it another try but I do not have high expectation for the moment.

Hi Olivier,

Thanks for the reply.
So far I've managed to install it running a hacked version of HEPToolInstaller.py with the version number for LHAPDF set to the latest version.
It seems to work for my machine, but I'm not sure it is a good solution.
Let me know if you come up with something more reliable.
