SysCalc hash changed

Asked by Ivan Razumov

Dear MadGraph deveopers,

we have noticed that the hash of Syscalc source tarball (http://madgraph.phys.ucl.ac.be/Downloads/SysCalc_V1.1.7.tar.gz) has changed. Is it something expected?

Thanks,
Ivan (CERN SPI team)

Hi,

SysCalc is deprecated and not supported at all in the latest version.

This being said the SysCalc tools is not developed by us.
The tar-ball is potentially automaticlly re-created if they are some changes from the authors on the associated repo. If they did not change the version flag then it will just change the hash indeed.

I will ping here the author of SysCalc who should be able to give you more details

Olivier

Hello

Yes, indeed the latest version is v1.1.7 and has not changed for a while.

Hi Olivier,

the latest is which version - 2.8.1 or 3.0.2.beta?

I was speaking of 2.8.1.

3.0.2 might still have it but the next version of the 3.x version will also pass to python3 and will have the same issue as 2.8.x

Cheers,

Olivier

Hello Alexis,

thanks for the information. I see that the contents of the tarball is the same in tarball from SPI mirror and the newly downloaded one (http://madgraph.phys.ucl.ac.be/Downloads/SysCalc_V1.1.7.tar.gz). I guess there is some automatic job repackaging the source every day?

In principle the repackaging occurs only if a new version of syscalc is pushed but maybe that condition is wrongly set to "always repackage" and in that case yes, this happens every day.

@olivier-mattelaer can you check and maybe fix this? This breaks spack (https://github.com/spack/spack) recipe for syscalc

Hi Ivan,

I personally daily use easybuild. So I know very well those type of installer.
However I do not see the point to include SysCalc in such type of system today.
SysCalc is not compatible with MG5aMC anymore, is deprecated since at least 4 years and lack a lot of feature compare to the python equivalent which is shipped with MG5aMC.

If you really want to include such code in spack, please use that link:
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mgtools/mg5amcnlo/SysCalc/tarball/17

Cheers,

Olivier
