Gridpack generates event.lhe file very slow, and very few events are generated in each run

Asked by Yao Yao

Hello,

I am generating a process pp > z > m+ m- zp with model HAHM_MG5model_v3/HAHM_variableMW_v3_UFO, where zp represents the dark photon. For my analysis, I'd like to require a very low mass dark photon, less than 1MeV. I used gridpack_generation.sh in the CMSSW software and then I ran the gridpack to produce cmsfinal_grid.lhe. However, it takes very long time to finish a single run, and for each run it only generates about 30 events, while my input is to generate 10000 events. (It continues second run, but still it takes very long time and only few events are produced). I would like to know what can probably cause the problem, or where I can check to find some clues. Before this, I was generating the event with dark photon mass about 15 GeV, and it works.

(I didn't see any error pop up when gridpack is running. The small amount of events forms a event.lhe for each run, and it looks natural. Sorry this is my first time using madgraph through gridpack, Please let me know if you have any idea or comments.)

Thank you.

What cut are you using? As I can see the only regulator is the mass. Since your mass is quite low. This might not be enough.

Cheers,

Olivier

Subject: [Question #682906]: Gridpack generates event.lhe file very slow, and very few events are generated in each run

New question #682906 on MadGraph5_aMC@NLO:
https://answers.launchpad.net/mg5amcnlo/+question/682906

Thank you.

Hi Olivier,

I only set a restriction on the minimum invariant mass for the lepton pair, which is in the run_card. From my side, this is so far the condition that I care about, because I want two leptons are from Z.
If you have any recommendation that I need to put cuts on something, please let me know.

Thank you,
Yao.

Should not you ask the Z to be onshell then?
Because your syntax breaks gauge invariance (I guess, I do not know your model) at large invariant mass, and if so it will also break lorentz invariance.

Could you check what happens without the gridpack?
The other interesting poing is what is the estimate cross-section (and the associated error)
In this case, the number from the gridpack run is also interesting.

Cheers,

Olivier

Olivier Mattelaer proposed the following answer:
What cut are you using? As I can see the only regulator is the mass.
Since your mass is quite low. This might not be enough.

Olivier

Subject: [Question #682906]: Gridpack generates event.lhe file very slow, and very few events are generated in each run

New question #682906 on MadGraph5_aMC@NLO:
https://answers.launchpad.net/mg5amcnlo/+question/682906

Hello,

I am generating a process pp > z > m+ m- zp with model
HAHM_MG5model_v3/HAHM_variableMW_v3_UFO, where zp represents the dark
photon. For my analysis, I'd like to require a very low mass dark
photon, less than 1MeV. I used gridpack_generation.sh in the CMSSW
software and then I ran the gridpack to produce cmsfinal_grid.lhe.
However, it takes very long time to finish a single run, and for each
run it only generates about 30 events, while my input is to generate
10000 events. (It continues second run, but still it takes very long
time and only few events are produced). I would like to know what can
probably cause the problem, or where I can check to find some clues.
Before this, I was generating the event with dark photon mass about 15
GeV, and it works.

(I didn't see any error pop up when gridpack is running. The small
amount of events forms a event.lhe for each run, and it looks natural.
Sorry this is my first time using madgraph through gridpack, Please let
me know if you have any idea or comments.)

Thank you.
