Showering/hadronization in MG5

Asked by Maksym Ovchynnikov

It is possible to install pythia inside the MG5. Does this mean that launching the process in MG5 with installed pythia I will obtain the .lhe file with hadronized and showered events automatically, without getting involved in pythia?

Hi,

You can install pythia8 via the command "install pythia8".
and we will TRY to install it for you. If it works, you will be able to run pythia8 from our interface.
With some quite suitable default for your process.

But this is still installing/using pythia code (so we do not take any credit and responsibility for that part)

The output of pythia8 is an HEPMC format.

Cheers,

Olivier

PS: Pythia6 is not supported anymore and should not be used for physics since such result would be auite outdated (i.e. not accurate).

Dear Olivier,

could you please tell me how to deal with hepmc format? As far as I understand at this moment, .hempc files are quiet large (1 GB and larger), and I do no understand how to convert them to something like .lhe.

They are many tools to handle such standard file.
You can use rivet or madanylisis5 for plotting such file. Or use the helms library to read such file from your custom c++ file or read the file with any code that you like

Cheers,

Olivier
