fail to reach target

Asked by Amin Aboubrahim

Dear Madgraph developers,

I am using the current version 2.6.0 and while generating events, I get:

INFO: Combining runs
INFO: finish refine
INFO: Combining Events
INFO: fail to reach target 50000
  === Results Summary for run: run_01 tag: tag_1 ===

     Cross-section : 2.707 +- 0.002524 pb
     Nb of events : 50000

INFO: Running Systematics computation

I am not sure why it shows a message saying "fail to reach target 50000" while it actually displays that the number of events is 50000. Can I just ignore that?

Thank you,
Amin

Hi,

I would advise you to check the number of events actually written in the output files.
And to be particularly cautious about those events but in principle it should be fine.

Could you send me by email all the information to reproduce your run?
(i.e. the banner of the run) I will try to reproduce such effect.

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi Olivier,

Thank you for the reply.
I checked the ROOT file event size and it is indeed 50000.
I will send you the banner in a few.

Thanks for looking into this.

Best,
Amin

Hi Amin,

Looks like your are generating processes with a lot of different final state.
In that scenario, we are force to do some unweighting for subset of final states.
Looks like that one of those subset fail to reach the requested number of events.
But that when we combined all those subset, the one failing was sub dominant and did not impact the full sample.

So nothing to be really worry about. (Of course be carefull about this sample)

Cheers,

Olivier
