can madgraph freeze and later restart state?

Asked by michael graesser

Hi,

I submit MadGraph jobs to a cluster where a ~18 hour time limit is rigorously enforced. Does MadGraph5_aMC support a feature where I can freeze the "state" of the computation, then later restart it from where it was frozen? If not, please consider adding this functionality to future releases, and maybe you can point me to where I might be able to insert a hack to steer control of the evaluation.

thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,

Sorry for the long delay, I'm just coming back from holiday.

So no, we do not have any support for freezing state.

If you want to implement such functionality,
I would suggest to look at this link:
https://cp3.irmp.ucl.ac.be/projects/madgraph/wiki/Plugin
which is intended for user modification of the control of the cluster.
This is not yet release and you need the following version of madgraph to have such control:
lp:~maddevelopers/mg5amcnlo/plugin_mode

that you can download via the command:
bzr branch lp:~maddevelopers/mg5amcnlo/plugin_mode

details on the structure is available in the FAQ:
https://answers.launchpad.net/mg5amcnlo/+faq/2249

Cheers,

Olivier
