IOError with Herwigpp

Hi,

I have recently started moved to version v2_4_0 of aMCatNLO, using Herwig7. I have not managed to successfully shower events yet, due to the following error:

Hi Inês,
the shower interface to HW7 is not ready yet, so unfortunately
you cannot yet shower HW7 events i'nternally'.
I'll take a look as soon as possible.

Hi Paolo,

Unfortunately this issue does not seem to be associated with the Herwig version. Switching to Herwig++ I find the exact same problem.

Hi Inês,

the problem may be due to the PDF, namely the fact that you use LHAPDF6.
Could you try and see whether the code goes through when showering with
the internal Herwig++ PDF?

In case it works, I’ll take a closer look (next Monday, not tomorrow
unfortunately) and try to understand what goes wrong in the interface
in presence of LHAPDF6.

Dear Paolo,

Many apologies for taking so long to reply. By switching the pdf option to internal in the shower card, the generation runs smoothly. So I confirm that the issue may be with LHAPDF6. Is there any update on this matter?

Dear Ines,

yes, there were updates recently.
We have a preliminary (i.e. not yet official) branch that is supposed to work
both with HW++ and HW7. The handling of LHAPDF6 was specifically tested.

Here is the link:

Concerning the LHAPDF error, it may be due to the fact that either the code
has some problems with the PDFname/PDFnumber interface, or it does not understand
the LHAPDF version (6 as opposed to 5) you’re using.

If, after trying this new branch, it still does not work, you may try and go in
MCatNLO/RUN_HERWIGPP_* and execute ./Herwig run -N 1000 MCATNLO_HERWIGPP.run, to
see what error message comes out.

Note that the preliminary branch is not yet merged with the official release,
hence some of the new functionalities of MG5_aMC may not be synchronised.
