EPA with LHAPDF
Dear experts,
I am trying to run two photon fusion process, say a a > w+ w-, with one beam type being EPA the other LHAPDF.
MadGraph is giving negative cross sections, something like -1.635e+12 +- 2.793e+09 pb.
I set lhapdf as pdlabel and chose the wanted lhaid then set lpp1=1,lpp2=2.
Then got the wrong answer. There is no error message, and it is running smoothly only with the wrong answer.
LHAPDF is working well when both beam types are PDF.
Could you help me with this?
Thanks.
Regards,
Mamut.

Did you use NLO PDF or LO ones?

Hi,
I actually can not reproduce your result
I have run the following:
generate a a > w+ w-
output
launch
set lpp1 1
set lpp2 2
set pdlabel lhapdf
set lhaid 20463
set ptheavy 0
launch
set lhaid 244600
and get for

I’m using the 2.3.4.beta version of the code.

Dear Olivier :
I have tried this process like you said , and I always have the negative Xcection value . But as long as both lpp set to 1 , it replays normal result .
I am using both the 2.3.3 beta version and 2.4.0 beta version .
best regards Nijat

Hi,
Did you run exactly the command that I have send?
Unfortunately, I will not be able to help you if I’m not able to reproduce this problem.
I have try on another computer (linux this time) and again, I have positive value.
I would suggest that you re-install the various tools (MG and lhapdf)
Cheers,
Olivier

Hi,
Thank you for your time.
I have reinstalled the LHAPDF6.1.6 and MadGraphv2_3_3 (I had tried MG5_aMC_v2.4.0.beta but had too many compile errors at launch command) and still my cross section is negative for a a > w+ w-. My OS is 14.04.1-Ubuntu x64.
However, I noticed that in output_

Ok,
This clarify why we do not have the same answer and the problem.
LHAPDF is indeed incompatible with EPA.
and the behavior differs if you use LHAPDF6 or LHAPDF5.
I have put in the development version a fix which I have tested with lhapdf6 (I do not have lhapdf5 anymore).
you can get it via the following command:
bzr branch lp:~maddevelopers/mg5amcnlo/2.4.1/
Could you do us a favor and create a bug report with your compilation error?
It is important for us to know what happens before 2.4.0 will be officially release.
Thanks,
Olivier
