Which value to use for Higgs Total Width

Asked by shibasipu

Dear Oliver,
                         I am generating some processes i.e. p p > h h z b and p p > z z h b in MG5_v2_3_3. In the first process, I am decaying one h i.e. h > b b~ and another h to i.e h> z l+ l- , z > l+ l- . In the second process h decays to i.e. h > w- l+ vl , w- > l- vl~. I have a confusion , which value should I use for total width i.e. width of h = Auto or 4.04 e -03 for m_h = 125 GeV. I am getting some large discrepancy in the production cross section and production cross section and BRs. I have also visited this faq https://answers.launchpad.net/mg5amcnlo/+faq/2442 . That is not solving the job.

Regards,
Shiba

hi,

Using Auto for the width of the Higgs is certainly not a good idea since this mode only account for tree-level decay.
In most of the case this is enough but not for the Higgs which has sizable loop-induced decay.

Cheers,

Olivier

Thanks. That means should I set the total width of Higgs = 4.04 e -03 for m_h = 125 GeV for the above processes that I mentioned ?

Hi Shiba,

I did not check the correct numerical value but I can see multiple valid choice
1) Use the width reported in the Higgs report for that mass
2) Use the LO width which takes into account the Loop-induced decay (as computed in the heft with the Auto command)

Cheers,

Olivier
