configuring external pythia8 and Delphes possible?

Asked by Arno Heister

Hi!

I'd like to use already installed pythia8 and Delphes versions on my Mac. Is it possible to use them instead of installing them by means of the install methods of MG5? If so please advise how?

Thx and cheers, Arno

Hi,

For pythia8, we do not have any way to install it internally to MG5. So I do not know what you refer to.
For Delphes, sure you can specify the path in the file
input/mg5_configuration.txt
(you can also specify the path for pythi8 in that file actually, not that pythia8 interface is only available @NLO

Cheers,

Olivier

Dear Oliver!

Ok, thanks I understand. I was using LO stuff only so far and gave already the pythia8 path in the config file you were referring to.

I’ve got always “not pythia” installed when trying to run the pythia step … not knowing that for _LO_ I do need still pythia6 installed via the install command i.e. the pythia8 setting to avoid this problem is pretty useless …

Thanks for this clarification and cheers, Arno

Hi again!

Does Delphes work with NLO incl. pythia8 only?

For LO I am always getting Delphes not installed when using external Delphes or Delphes installed via the "install Delphes” command.

Thanks and cheers, Arno

Hi,

I have take a look at the code and in order to have Delphes in another mode that "not installed" you need to have installed pythia-pgs.

The logic is that you cannot run Delphes on some parton-level events, and therefore in order to run Delphes you need to go trough a parton shower and the only one we natively support is pythia6 trough pythia-pgs package.

Cheers,

Olivier
