HERWIGPP and PYTHIA8

Asked by Harikrishnan Ramani

Hello aMC@NLO authors,

I have been trying generate pp->WW process in mg5_amc.
I am running into problems with all the shower options

1)When I use Heriwgpp or Pythia8, I get :

INFO: Prepairing MCatNLO run
Command "launch auto " interrupted with error:
AttributeError : 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'endswith'
Please report this bug on https://bugs.launchpad.net/madgraph5
More information is found in '/Users/harikrishnan/Downloads/MG5_aMC_v2_1_2_beta2/ppWW/run_05_tag_1_debug.log'.
Please attach this file to your report.
INFO:

2)When I use Herwig6 or Pythia6 the .hep file gets created but when I run Delphes on it i get ** ERROR: Unsupported block type.-----------------------------------]
which is well documented. But when i followed the various discussions both here and in Delphes I thought this problem was solved!

Dear Harikrishnan,
thanks for your feedback.

As far as your question 1) is concerned, the problem should be caused
by the fact that Herwig++ and Pythia8 are not provided together with
the MadGraph5_aMC@NLO package and have to be installed separately.
Once this installation is completed, together with that of necessary
auxiliary packages (ThePEG for Herwig++, and HepMC for both Herwig++
and Pythia8), the user has to specify the path to the relevant installation
directories in the file input/mg5_configuration.txt (fill the variables
hwpp_path, pythia8_path and similar), and the code will be able to use
these showers as well as Herwig6 and Pythia6.

As for 2) I'm not sure whether Delphes can right now handle negative-
weighted events as those produced by a NLO+PS MC@NLO run, and the
NLO shower interface to Delphes has still to be properly built.
The problem may be related to this, and in general I'm not at all an expert
in Delphes, so I think it is better if Olivier redirects this part of the question
to the Delphes authors.

Cheers.
Paolo

Hello Paolo,
Thank you for your message. That helped and now am able to run Pythia8!
I shall await the redirection in order for my stdhep problem to be solved.
Sincerely
Harikrishnan

Hi Harikrishnan,
I’m happy that now you can run with Pythia8,
and you should get a reply from the Delphes
side very soon (I’ve also written Olivier
directly in order to contact the Delphes
authors).
A question: since Pythia8 outputs HepMC (not
StdHEP) files, are you saying you have fed
this HepMC NLO+PS file into Delphes without
any complaint, or you have not tried?
Thanks.
Cheers.
Paolo

Hello Paolo,
The HepMC file created by aMC@NLO works perfectly with Delphes. I think its only a stdhep->Delphes specific issue.
