difference of two lhco files

Asked by Yanzhi Meng

Dear MG team,

I ran MG5 with PGS and Pythia to generate a b jet with leptons. When I look for the lhco file in the events folder, I find two of them. One is located in the "events" folder (lhco1) and the other is located in the "run" folder which is in the events folder (lhco2). If I rerun MG, MG generates another run folder and the lhco2 from the previous run is intact , but the lhco1 from the previous run is washed out and taken place by a new lhco1 file. I found the two lhco files from the same physical process are different and I don't know which one I should use. So far as my calculation is concerned, lhco1 gives better results. Can you help me figure out what makes the difference between the two lhco files and which one is more dependable?

Best regards,

Yanzhi

Hi Yanzhi,

We don’t have PGS expert in our team anymore. So I should refer you to the PGS manual.
The lhco1 is actually a side product of our computation and should therefore not really be used.

it is created by the following command line:
pgs --stdhep pythia_events.hep --nev 100000 --L0 --detector ../Cards/pgs_card.dat pgs_uncleaned_events.lhco
then this file is used to create the lhco2 file that you refer via the command line:
clean_output -muon pgs_uncleaned_events.lhco pgs_events.lhco

The exact implication of this second command should be read from the PGS documentation.

Cheers,

Olivier
