cross section of Drell-Yan production

Asked by Jun-Yi Wu

Hello MadGraph Developers,

Recently, when I run the Drell-Yan plus jets production by aMC@NLO and old madgraph version(MG5v1.11).
I found a large cross section difference between the 2 version.
Note that I was running them on lxplus5 machine.

1) p p > l+ l- /h

<cross section>
MG5.1.5.11: 0.2386e+04 +- 0.81e-01
aMC@NLO: 0.2386e+04 +- 0.81e-01

2) p p > l+ l- j /h

<cross section>
MG5.1.5.11: 0.16658e+04 +- 0.86e-01
aMC@NLO: 0.45126e+05 +- 0.1684e+4

3) p p > l+ l- j j /h

<cross section>
MG5.1.5.11: 0.16658e+04 +- 0.86e-01
aMC@NLO: 0.36346e+07 +- 0.30293e+06

These three process are running separately. All of them are 100k events leading order production.
For 3 MG5.1.11 Drell-Yan production, I use the same run_card , same parameter_card.
For 3 aMC@NLO Drell-Yan production, I use the same run_card as MG5.1.11 and default parameter_card.
The crossection of 1jet and 2jets events produced by aMC@NLO is large , also they have large uncertainty.
In contract , MG5.1.11 seems more correctly than aMC@NLO.
Note that, all processes were not passing parton shower. They are at matrix element level.

My cards can be check on my webpage.
Here's the link. https://juwu.web.cern.ch/juwu/madgraph_question/
Also you can find the lhe files in the same folder.

Thanks for reply,
Jun-Yi

Hi Jun-Wi,

Could you also put on your website, the banner associate to your run, since the cards that you put are not the same as those used for the run and are not compatible
(the param_card didn’t correspond to the model use and make MG to crash).
In any case, I’m trying to reproduce your bug and try to understand what happens.

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi Jun-Wi,

Looks like that I reproduce the problem with 2.1.0 but not with the development version 2.1.1
Since the only cut that you put on the lepton are MMLL cut and since we found/fix a bug recently on that one.
I have linked your question to that bug report.
You will found a patch in the associate thread.

The new version 2.1.1 should in principle be released today or on Monday.

Cheers,

Olivier

Hello Olivier,

Is the 2.1.1 version released?
I could not find the download source from your website.
And when I execute MG5_aMC@NLO, it didn't show the available new updates.
It seems 2.1.1 is not released yet?

Thanks,

Jun-Yi
