Problem with fragmentation in MadGraph

Dear MadGraphers,

I am trying to generate a simple process in MG5 (generate p p > z z, z > u u~) with fragmentation enabled in the pythia_card (MSTJ(1)=1). From the pythia logfile it is clear to me that the fragmentation works as intended; I do indeed get a cascade of light hadrons etc. Here is my problem: the particles originating from the fragmentation are not stored in the output root-file (named something like tag_1_pythia_lhe_events.root) or the lhe-file. However, particles originating from ISR/FSR are. Have I forgotten to enable some jet-switch in a some card, or what is going on here?

Hi Maria,

The lhe format performs some particle clustering in order to simplify the output and being able to make some simple plot.
So this is expected to not have the full information in that output format.

I point this question to Pavel, which may want to add some information.

I was interested in having the association between the quarks on generator level and the jets created in the fragmentation process. When I examine the generated events from the pgs process that are contained in another ntuple (pgs_events.root) (which contains kinematical information on particle level) I miss the association between the truth and the final particles. Is there a way to solve this problem? Or is it possible to add the particles after the fragmentation process to the pythia output file?

PS: Note that PGS is officially not supported by their author, so I would suggest to use Delphes instead.

Hi Maria,

Pythia also outputs a stdhep file (pythia_events.hep). It should contain all the particles. You can convert this file to root using Delphes or ExRootAnalysis.

In Delphes, the final "reconstructed" particles contain links to the truth particles. Delphes' root file description is available at
