"Part-time" channels are a problem for me-tv

Some tv stations in Britain are part-time (i.e. some only transmit at night, some only during the day).

If me-tv was last used on a night-time channel, and is then switched on during the day, it seems to lock up. I clear this via GConf by reseting the "last_channel" value to an all-day station. Is there a fix for this, or some way to stop it using the last channel at start up?

I'm running me-tv 1.0.0 on Ubuntu 9.04.

I don't know what the issue is, it should timeout after about 15 seconds. Maybe the verbose log might help to see where it's hanging.

As a work around for the issue you could use something like `gconftool-2 -t integer -s /apps/me-tv/last_channel 1` to reset the channel at startup.

From the terminal I ran:-
me-tv -v

After a couple of minutes I clicked on "BBC ONE" then a couple minutes more I forced it to close.

Yes, it would appear that the Stream thread is hanging waiting for a response. When I get the time, I'll have a look to see if there's an option that I can set to allow the read to timeout.

I can confirm I also suffer from this problem.

me-tv was started with a part-time channel no longer broadcasting, then after 20 seconds I tried to switch to BBC1 (24hour channel), with no joy, me-tv gui still running but no channel change working.

I generated the following with me-tv -v >> logme-tv.txt, but also received the error

Failed to open mrl 'fifo:///home/tim/.me-tv/me-tv-0.fifo'

in the terminal window.

This is really a case of ensuring when you the user closes the
application, ensure that is is left on a channel that will be there when
you next start it up! ;)

Thanks Scott, but I only use me-tv to record programs.

I automatically launch it via my own application which monitors the me-tv database, and is responsible for powering up the computer before the program starts, then powering down when its done. This generally happens when I'm safely tucked up in bed.

So in my case the solution is to use my own application to simply reset the "Last_Channel" to a safe, 24hr station like BBC1 just before me-tv is loaded.
