Can we fix number of events in MA5 rather than fixing Luminosity?

Thanks

Dear Satendra Kumar,

In short: no. But fixing the luminosity (or the cross section) does the same job, doesn't it?

Regards,

Benjamin

Dear Benjamin,

Extremely sorry for late response. Yes, It works good. But suppose we want
to fix the Number of Events (without caring the luminosity). Thereafter we
want to see how many events will be left after imposing the various cuts.

If we follow the current MA5 strategy, for example If we have the total
cross section (1.5 fb) for the process, and for its Background the total
cross section (7000 fb). Then, at the fix luminosity, say 10 fb^-1, we will
have 150 events as Signal, and 70,000 events as Background.

We can see for the signal we have very low statistics. In this situation,
we have to generate more and more number of events.

On other hand, if we generate 100,000 events, for both the Signal and
Background. Then keep fix the number of events rather than Luminosity. Even
after applying cuts, we will have sufficient number of events. That is what
I was doing by using older MadAnalysis manually (editing the
plot_events.f).

Thanks,
SK

Hi Satendra,

There are tewo way out:
 - You can overwrite the cross section to any value you want both for the signal and the background
 - You can ask MA5 to normalize the figures to 1 for each sample.
This should work with respect to what you want to do.

Cheers,

Benjamin
