No Histogram is coming

Asked by shibasipu

Dear MA5 Authors,
I am going through https://madanalysis.irmp.ucl.ac.be/wiki/UsingMa5Pad. I want to analyze a root file. I have followed the steps given in the link. Also, I have used the root file (testfile.root) available in the link. But I am not getting any histogram. Also, I am getting the following message. Please suggest some help.

Dear Shiba,

The histograms associated with that analysis are provided under a text format in the output directory (please browse inside that directory).

Best regards,

Benjamin

Dear Benjamin,
I have browsed "Histogram" directory earlier also. No plot is coming. In "histos.saf", most of the entries are zero. Also, in the "Cutflows" directory, there are some files. All these files have only zeroes as their entries. Shall I send one of these files to your e-mail ?

Also, I am worried about these lines(Please have a look to the bottom of my earlier thread)

BEGIN Finalization
not really doing anything
END Finalization

Shiba

Hi Shiba,

> I have browsed "Histogram" directory earlier also. No plot is coming. In "histos.saf", most of the entries are zero.
This means that most of the bins of the histograms are empty.

> Also, in the "Cutflows" directory, there are some files. All these files have only zeroes as their entries. Shall I send one of these files to your e-mail ?
This means that your events are not populating the signal regions of the analysis under consideration.

That's ok. This is related to a few printout statements in the analysis code.

Thank you very much. I have taken the root file (testfile.root) available at https://madanalysis.irmp.ucl.ac.be/wiki/UsingMa5Pad for the analysis as an example. Is that root file has some problem ? As I am beginner to MA5 (particularly to expert mode), I want to analyse a root file that is already available and to get some plots for the distribution.

Shiba

Hi Shiba,

Then there is no problem. The events described by this file are simply not passing the cuts of the analysis you are considering.

Benjamin

Sorry Benjamin. I have also used the files available at http://inspirehep.net/record/1305458/files/ ( which is mentioned to use for the rootfile (testfile.root) at https://madanalysis.irmp.ucl.ac.be/wiki/UsingMa5Pad). I do not understand where is the problem.

Shiba

Hi Shiba,

There is no problem at all. You are trying to recast a SUSY search to a sample that may be non SUSY. Therefore, it is very likely that most events will not populate the signal regions.

Cheers,

Benjamin

Dear Benjamin,
Hope you understand my confusion. Actually, as a beginner, I am strictly following the link https://madanalysis.irmp.ucl.ac.be/wiki/UsingMa5Pad to get a rough idea how to analyze the root file. It is mentioned that you can use testfile.root for testing with the files available at http://inspirehep.net/record/1305458/files/ . It will be better if you could provide a sample root file and all the necessary files (i.e. .cpp , .h files) to get various histograms.

Shiba

Thanks Benjamin. Now I got a rough idea how to analyse a root file after following the link https://madanalysis.irmp.ucl.ac.be/wiki/WritingAnalyses.

But I am not getting my cat_ued_16_013.info file. Is it to be generated automatically ? How to use it to calculate confidence level ?

Shiba

Well, this is there. This is the page you followed. You are getting cutflows and histograms. The fact that they are mostly empty is not an issue for testing.

Benjamin

Hi Shiba,

The info file must be coded by hand by the user. Then, you can use the CLs script for the CLs calculation.

Benjamin
